Take Stock in Children, in conjunction with Mythic Running on Amelia Island, is proud to announce the inaugural Dollars for Scholars 5k and 6-Hour Endurance events. These events will take place simultaneously at Fernandina Beach High School
Our 5k race is designed to take runners through a unique course of supportive neighborhoods, along boardwalks and over marsh bridges, and through a portion of Egan’s Creek Greenway. The course begins and ends at Fernandina Beach High School, and participants are encouraged to linger and enjoy live music, vendor booths, and food trucks.
Please note that this is a fundraiser, and as such we have elected to not produce finisher medals. All runners/walkers will receive a swag bag and a high-quality race t-shirt, and male/female age-group winners will be awarded hats. Additionally, the event will be professionally photographed by Penny Glackin and the images will be made available to all participants at no charge.
The 6-hour endurance race and relay is the only non-trail race on Amelia Island where runners have the chance to achieve an ultra-marathon distance. This race is similar in concept as popular relay events throughout the nation where individuals or teams of 2-6 runners/walkers share the responsibility and pride of running/walking up to 6-hours continuously to beat the number of loops completed by the other individuals or teams.
The 6-hour endurance event will be held at the paved track loop in front of Fernandina Beach High School. Half of this 1/4 mile loop is shaded, and the area around the course will be open for teams to set up camp for runner transition, cheering, or spectating. All participants in the endurance event will receive a race shirt, a stitched race hat, and a wood medal, personalized with their team’s distance. Teams are encouraged to solicit donations for every loop they complete, and prizes will be awarded to the individual and team that raise the most money.
