Fall has swept over Amelia Island, bringing with it the promise of cooler temperatures and the beauty of the changing seasons. Nature enthusiasts, photographers, hikers, and runners love this perfect outdoor weather, so we’ve rounded up a selection of exciting outdoorsy events and adventures to welcome fall on Amelia Island. For a complete list of island events and happenings, head over to our Activities Calendar.
Join us for the Right Whale Festival, a celebration of the annual return of endangered North Atlantic right whales to the warm coastal waters off northeast Florida and Georgia. With fewer than 350 of these magnificent creatures remaining, this family-friendly event aims to raise awareness of the threats they face and how we can contribute to their recovery. It’s a family fun event with live music, arts & crafts, educationals exhibits, beach clean-up, food and more! Free admission.
Omni Amelia Island Resort’s “The Sprouting Project” offers a monthly farm-to-table dining experience where you can savor dishes made from seasonal ingredients grown in their on-site organic garden. Before enjoying a 5-course dinner, take a tour of the garden, aquaponic greenhouse, barrel room, and apiary. In November, the featured ingredient is the Kernel. Â Tickets available for purchase online.
Show your support for our veterans by participating in the Cross the Line Foundation Veterans Day 5K Run. The event starts and ends in the marina parking lot at the foot of Centre Street, near the Remember Our Fallen memorial. This timed race includes a race t-shirt for registrants. Registration Deadline: November 6, 2023.Â
Lace up your running shoes and don your best turkey attire for the Omni Annual Turkey Trot 5K at Racquet Park. Runners (and walkers) enjoy a scenic run (or walk) through the resort’s tree-canopied trails before diving into Thanksgiving cooking festivities. This is always a fun way to kick start the day!
Get toes in the sand and the whole family involved in the “Run Like the Dickens” 1-mile fun run at Main Beach Park. The course runs along the beach, and a pre-race warm-up is provided. After the race, head down to Centre Street to enjoy the Dickens on Centre festival!
Explore mindfulness and meditation at Story & Song Centre for Arts & Culture, led by Valerie Brandt. This session includes Yoga Nidra and the soothing sounds of “singing crystal bowls,” aimed at inducing total relaxation for your mind and body. No reservation needed, and it’s a free event!
Begin your day with Sunrise Yoga at the Williams House. This class incorporates flow sequences and short holds to enhance balance, strength, and flexibility with poses adapted to all skill levels. The Amelia Island Williams House is a gorgeous 1880’s antebellum mansion/bed and breakfast with lush grounds that are perfect for a stress-relieving yoga session in nature.Â
Experience the magic of kayaking under the moonlight with Amelia Island Kayak Excursions. This guided kayak tour explores the river and saltmarshes of Amelia Island looking for creatures of the night while keeping an eye out for “Amelia’s Light.” A great way to welcome in the spirited season of Halloween and a unique opportunity to connect with nature. You’ll remember this for a long time. Pictured above: Manatee
