In addition to beautiful beaches, Amelia Island is home to an irresistible mix of luxury spas, world-class golf, distinctive dining, unique shopping and an amazing array of things to do for families, couples and groups.
With 99 holes of championship golf, the island is a true golfer’s paradise. There are five island golf courses to choose from on Amelia Island, which has been named one of the “Top 25 golf islands in the world,” by LINKS magazine. Amelia Island has festivals and events for every season and scene. Great ways to celebrate the island’s colorful past and present include signature annual events such as Amelia Island Concours Week in March, the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival in May, and Dickens on Centre in December. Historic Centre Street is the main artery in the heart of downtown Fernandina Beach. Centre Street is eight blocks long and anchored by the city’s harbor. Vintage buildings line the sidewalks where boutiques, restaurants, banks, churches, watering holes, a courthouse, and post office can be found. It’s where the past meets the present.
Downtown Fernandina Beach is made up of 50 very walkable blocks for shopping, dining and entertainment. There are also several nature trails, which are great places to walk or bike. Visit our Nature and Outdoors Travel guide for more information.
In addition to downtown, Amelia Island’s Old Town is also a designated historic district; along with the Amelia Island Lighthouse, the Peck Center and the Oxley-Heard Funeral Home, which are individually designated historic district sites.
